A public equestrian venue built on the legacy of Arabian horse breeders
McCoy Equestrian & Recreation Center is located at 14280 Peyton Drive in Chino Hills and sits on 20 acres. The facility comprises three arenas: the Main Show Arena (150 feet by 300 feet), Warm-Up Arena #1 (135 feet by 250 feet), and Warm-Up Arena #2 (135 feet by 250 feet). Arenas feature lights and public-address capability and announcer stands. Shaded bleacher seating for 600 is available. The venue hosts horse shows, livestock events, weddings, banquets, and parties. Facilities include animal wash racks, trailer parking areas, portable stalls for multi-day events, access to the city trail system, and a nearby gazebo for picnics or concessions.
From private estate to public facility
The McCoy Arabian horse property was originally the home of Frank and Helen McCoy. Helen McCoy donated the property to the City in 1996 through a long-term lease agreement of one dollar per year for 25 years. The property includes the McCoy Barn and the McCoy Residence. After the lease period approached its conclusion, the City purchased the property on March 9, 2021. The City held a celebration event on July 16, 2021, marking what would have been Helen McCoy's 110th birthday.
The City's Community Services Department oversees facility reservations, which are accepted up to one year in advance through the Chino Hills Community Center. Rental rates are calendar-year based, with separate published rate schedules for 2026 and 2027. Events and community use
The center hosts a wide range of equestrian disciplines, including dressage, western, and hunter/jumper competitions. Insurance connection: Auto liability and requirements
California auto insurance requires minimum liability limits of 30,000 dollars per person and 60,000 dollars per accident for bodily injury and 15,000 dollars for property damage. After issuance, an insurer may cancel for fraud, non-payment, or a substantial increase in hazard. A "Good Driver" licensed three or more consecutive years with one or fewer points must be offered a rate at least 20% lower than non-Good Driver rates. Insurers must offer uninsured motorist coverage; declining requires a signed waiver. A driver found 51% or more at fault faces a surcharge at renewal.
